Melburnā valsts svētkos runu teiks Valdis Zatlers
Šogad Latvijas 99. valsts svētkos Melburnas latviešu namā būs īpašs viesis no Latvijas – kādreizējais valsts prezidents Valdis Zatlers. Zatlera kungs viesosies 8 latviešu centros Austrālijā, kur viņš uzrunās latviešus piedaloties valsts svētku svinīgos pasākumos. Svētku akts Melburnā paredzēts svētdien, 19. novembrī 14.00 Latviešu nama Lielajā zālē. Savukārt, 18. novembrī 11.00 notiks svētku dievkalpojums Svētā Krusta baznīcā, 40 Warrigal Road, Surrey Hills. Valdis Zatlers ir traumatologs ortopēds, kurš pirms ievēlēšanas par Valsts prezidentu vadīja Rīgas Traumatoloģijas un ortopēdijas slimnīcu. Tautā prezidents paliek atmiņā ar to, ka savas prezidentūras laikā 2011. gadā viņš ierosināja referendumu par 10. Saeimas atlaišanu saistībā ar oligarhu ietekmi uz Saeimu.
Latvia’s 99th anniversary of independence, to be held at the Melbourne Latvian House, will be celebrated with a special guest from Latvia – the former president of Latvia, Mr. Valdis Zatlers. Mr. Zatlers will visit 8 Latvian centres where he will address the Latvian community at formal commemoration ceremonies. The formal commemoration event in Melbourne is scheduled at 2 p.m. on 19th November in the Melbourne Latvian House Great Hall. A commemoration church service will be held at 11 a.m. on 18th November at the Church of the Holy Cross, 40 Warrigal Road Surrey Hills. Valdis Zatlers is a traumatologist and orthopaedic surgeon, who was in charge of the Riga Trauma and Orthopaedic Hospital before he was elected as the President of Latvia. The president remains in the memory of the Latvian people as the president who, during his presidency in 2011, initiated a referendum to dissolve the Parliament in relation to the influence exerted by oligarchs on the Parliament.
