Kāda Tava loma Melburnas latviešu namā?
Pildu vairākus pienākumus, galvenais ir veikt nama uzlabošanas projektus un rūpēties, lai namam būtu ienākumi, ne tikai no latviešu sabiedrības, bet arī no citiem avotiem. Lielākie projekti uz ko patreizi strādāju ir lielās zāles skatuves iekārtas uzlabošana, pataisīt drošu apgaismošanas sistēmu, atjaunot nodilušos skatuves aizskarus, atjaunot kora podestus ar drošiem un viegli uzstādāmiem. Tā kā mūsu lielā zāle atrodās otrajā stāvā un tauta paliek arvien vecāka, ir paredzēts iekārtot liftu, lai veciem ļaudīm būtu vieglāk nokļūt zālē un nav jākāpj pa trepēm.
Kāpēc esi iesaistījies Nama valdē?
Lai varu ņemt dalību pie lemšanas un palīdzēt nodrošināt nama pastāvēšanau nākotnē. Ir svarīgi ka Latviešu nams Melburnā ir aktīvs latviešu sabiedrības centrs, kur cilvēki var iegriezties un satikties latviskā vidē.
Kādas Tev izjūtas, kad atrodies Melburnas latviešu namā?
Ir patīkama sajūta, ka ir vieta, kur var satikt draugus un pavadīt drusciņ laiku starp latviešiem, vai tas būtu kafejnīcā vai kādā Latviešu namā rīkotā sarīkojumā.
What is your role at Melbourne Latvian House?
I wear a number of hats, the main one is to coordinate Latvian House upgrade projects and ensure that Latvian House generates income not only from the Latvian community but from other sources as well. The projects I am currently working on are an upgrade of the stage facilities in the main hall, ensuring the safety of the lighting equipment, replacing the stage curtains, replacing the choir platform with one that is safer and easier to assemble. As our main hall is on the second floor and our community is ageing planning is underway to build a lift to make it easier for the elderly community members to access the hall without using the stairs.
Why did you get involved in the Latvian House Committee?
So I can get involved in decision-making to ensure that Latvian House continues to serve the community in the future. Latvian House should remain an active Latvian community centre where the community can feel welcome and meet others in a Latvian environment.
How do you feel when you are at Melbourne Latvian House?
It’s a great place to meet friends and spend some time with other Latvians, either in the cafe or at a function that is held at the Latvian House.
