Latvian film The Sign Painter (Pilsēta pie upes) to be screened at Jewish Film Festival in February and March

The Jewish International Film Festival (JIFF), screening in cinemas across Australia from February 17 is thrilled to be showcasing 50+ Israeli and Jewish-themed films from across the globe, among which it will be screening The Sign Painter (in Latvian – Pilsēta pie upes). The film is a tragicomedy about a young Latvian man with simple dreams: to marry the free-spirited and beautiful daughter of a local Jewish merchant and to pursue a career as an artist whilst supporting himself as a sign painter. But his dreams are repeatedly swept away in the tumultuous tides of serial totalitarian occupation of his home during the WWII era. The movie will be screened at Lido Cinemas, Hawthorn and Classic Cinemas, Elsternwick on 21 and 28th February and 6th March.
